What does our city need? What is it missing? And what if…? Together, we’ll reflect on life in Rüsselsheim—and on what might be possible. The Future Workshop is organized in cooperation with the City of Rüsselsheim am Main, Strategic Urban Development.
Today’s Rüsselsheim is a product of the postwar era—in both architecture and urban planning. Three squares represent three distinct phases of construction between 1945 and 1970: Böllenseeplatz was created during the reconstruction of the destroyed city; Berliner Platz is the centerpiece of the first large-scale housing project in the late 1950s; and Landungsplatz was developed as part of the downtown redesign in the early 1970s.
How did people perceive these built visions? What has become of them today? And what are the residents’ hopes for their neighborhood? A “history workshop” and a “future workshop” will take place at each of the three locations. Residents are invited to share their memories and stories, and individual and collective experiences will be documented. Based on these historical insights, current challenges will be discussed. Participants will develop visions for the future use of their neighborhoods and spaces. This will facilitate dialogue among residents, business owners, local government officials, urban planners, and property owners.
Free. A registration is not required.
