The edible city connects urban greenery with food, education, and community. Fruit trees, berry bushes, vegetables, and herbs in public spaces make urban nature tangible—and accessible to everyone—giving it a completely new value for many people. This lecture presents concepts and examples of edible cities and shows how urban gardening, municipal initiatives, and civic engagement can work together.

While ecological effects such as biodiversity promotion and microclimate improvement are highlighted, the focus is also on social aspects: participation, environmental education, and new forms of shared responsibility. The lecture emphasises that edible urban nature is much more than a symbolic project—it is a multifunctional landscape with great potential for sustainable urban development.

Participation is free of charge.

The lecture will be held in German. Online participation is also possible via Zoom. Participation link:
