Gesund durch Grün – Stadtnatur als Ressource für Körper und Psyche
Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Senckenberg Gesellschaft, Umweltforum Rhein-Main
Near-natural spaces are an important health resource, especially in cities, for people of all ages. As areas for exercise, social interaction, and recreation, as well as sinks for pollutants and regulators of the climate, they provide essential ecosystem services closely linked to positive health effects. Cities also offer a variety of ecological niches with valuable biodiversity that promotes health.
Numerous studies show that access to nature in urban environments has wide-ranging benefits for both physical and mental health. Urban nature is an integral part of health-promoting city development and should be understood as a preventive measure—particularly in the context of social inequalities and climate change. This lecture provides an overview of current research on the relationships between urban nature, well-being, and health, addressing topics such as stress reduction, promotion of physical activity, and health equity. It will also discuss how green spaces need to be designed to benefit as many people as possible while minimising potential negative effects, such as impacts on allergies.
Participation is free of charge.
