Roofs and façades offer far more than protection from wind and weather: when properly greened, they become valuable building blocks of a climate-resilient city. They cool buildings and their surroundings, retain rainwater, improve air quality, and create much-needed habitats for plants and insects. At the same time, they enhance living comfort and can increase property values.
This lecture provides an overview of the different forms of green roofs and green façades, their ecological potential, and innovative developments – from combining greenery with photovoltaic systems to intelligent, sensor-controlled irrigation. Using current examples, it demonstrates how vegetated buildings can make an important contribution to climate adaptation, biodiversity, and quality of life in our cities.
Maren Stollberg is an environmental geoscientist and plant scientist. At Hochschule Geisenheim University, she explores how increasing natural surfaces on buildings can be designed and implemented from a technical perspective.
The lectures take place in person at 7:30 pm in the Green Lecture Hall, Robert-Mayer-Straße 2.
