- Animal-Aided Design: Planung in der Stadt für Mensch und Tier
Club Real, Frankfurt University of Applied Science, Senckenberg Gesellschaft
Animal-Aided Design follows an innovative approach: it combines residential development with nature conservation. Wildlife is considered from the very beginning as an equal user of urban spaces—and planned for accordingly.
The lecture presents the concept and demonstrates how the needs of selected target species can be systematically integrated into planning and design processes. Instead of treating conservation as an after-the-fact compensation, this approach creates designed habitats that benefit both people and animals. Using concrete examples, the lecture shows how architecture, open space planning, and species protection can be brought together. It highlights that biodiversity-friendly design does not have to conflict with urban density, but can create new qualities in city spaces where everyone—humans and animals alike—can thrive.
The lectures will take place in person at 19:30 in the Grüner Hörsaal, Robert-Mayer-Straße 2. Online participation is also possible via Zoom.

Biologist Wolfgang Weisser studies the ecological interactions between organisms and their effects on populations, communities, and ecosystems. One of his main focuses is examining the impacts of human land use on biodiversity and developing sustainable land-use strategies—particularly in the context of improving coexistence between humans and wildlife in urban areas.
