SEIT 19/02/20 HANAU (Biarna Diegmüller)
...
The workshops organized by SEIT 19/02/20 HANAU are aimed at young people who, in a time of growing social tensions, are looking for ways to express their thoughts, questions, and experiences. Through the creation of posters, a space is opened up where participants can articulate and give voice to their own perspectives—through dialogue with others and without any prior experience required.
The starting point is the far-right terrorist attack in Hanau on February 19, 2020. Since then, countless people have put their grief, anger, and questions into words, thereby having a lasting impact on the public discourse on racism in Germany. The workshops build on this process: participants are invited to write their own texts or to engage with existing contributions. These individual perspectives give rise to messages that are realized in the form of modular posters. When combined, they create a collective overall image in the urban landscape—a visible discourse that commemorates the event, addresses its consequences, and calls for social responsibility.
Posters are particularly well-suited for this purpose: they are immediate, accessible, and require no prior knowledge. The workshops create space for dialogue, participation, and mutual listening. This allows young people to experience a sense of self-efficacy and share their perspectives with the public. The approach is deliberately low-threshold: it requires little effort but offers the opportunity to be heard.
