The Oberursel Soapbox Race is a vibrant local tradition – and in 2026 it will for the first time be part of the WDC programme. Soapboxes are recognised not only as racing vehicles but also as design objects.
Vehicles created in the VHS workshop in June will compete alongside other self-built soapboxes. The race demonstrates how design, creativity and community become visible in public space.
Alongside speed, design and creative expression are especially valued. The highlight is the award for the best soapbox – a celebration for participants, teams and the audience alike.
The race traditionally starts at the Oberursel marketplace, with the course running through the old town.
Further information: Public roads, barrier-free access for spectators. Large public event, closed roads, weather dependent. Registration of racing teams required and subject to a fee. Language: German
