Kulturnetz Frankfurt gem. e. V.
The Schlitz hair salon in Frankfurt-Rödelheim has been largely preserved in its original 1970 condition—from the counter and telescopic wall dryers to the floors, wallpaper, furniture, original posters, and Wella ashtrays—making it a unique design gem. Currently, the salon stands unused, despite the scarcity of creative spaces in an area with high rents. Kulturnetz Frankfurt e.V. aims to seize this opportunity to transform the salon into an open, democratic space that preserves its 1970s design while enabling cultural encounters.
The project envisions a venue that connects culture, art, poetry, sustainability, and neighborhood life. Planned formats include readings, poetry slams, workshops on screen printing, monotype, DIY, and upcycling, as well as podcasts and performances to activate the space. Use of the salon will be closely coordinated with local initiatives, associations, artists, and neighbors, with the original furnishings serving as a foundation for creative activities.
