On Sunday, June 28 from 16:00, Venera Tirreno will read from her book “Encounters with the Rose Woman from Syracuse.” at Salon Schlitz. The story explores profound moral conflicts against the backdrop of southern Italian mentality and ideas of loyalty and sin.

As an introduction, Michael Bloeck will perform his “Rödelheim Rose Poems” and read excerpts from A Walk to Syracuse: “Most of my destinies lay in the circumstances of my life; and the final journey to Sicily was perhaps the first truly free decision of significance.” On December 6, 1801, Johann Gottfried Seume set out from Grimma near Leipzig on his legendary walk to Syracuse. He reached his destination on April 1, 1802, and returned home in August 1802.

Venera Tirreno is born in Italy and has lived in Frankfurt am Main for many years. Alongside studying business administration, she worked for many years in corporate lending at a major bank — a career she eventually left behind to devote herself to literature. During this time, she wrote her first book, Sicily… Forgotten!. Published in Italian in 2007, the book received the “Chimera d’Argento” award in Sicily. Since 2002, she has been a member of the Literaturclub der Frauen aus aller Welt e.V., whose board she has been part of since 2004.
