FensterSCHAU Ausstellung Velvet G.Oldmine

With this intervention, the artist Mrs. Velvet G.Oldmine continues the thread of her window exhibitions and expands her multifaceted Fluxus labyrinth by yet another space.

At the same time, she references a tradition rooted in 1950s and 1960s New York, when prestigious department stores and consumer temples commissioned artists—including Andy Warhol—to design their shop windows. The display window became a stage, a projection surface, and a place of encounter.

In Rödelheim, too, the boundaries between art and everyday life begin to dissolve. At the center of the installation is a mirror in the shop window that, according to local lore, has long been used quite naturally by passers-by. Around it, Mrs. Velvet G.Oldmine arranges textile objects, cosmetics, and found items into a poetic ensemble that feels both familiar and intriguingly unsettling.

The exhibition plays with questions of perception, staging, and self-image. Who, after all, is observing whom? The fleeting glance into one’s own reflection becomes part of the artwork itself, public space is transformed into an exhibition venue, and viewers unexpectedly become participants.

„FensterSchau“ demonstrates that Fluxus does not need to exist within museum walls. Right in the midst of everyday life—between hair dryers and street traffic—art reveals perhaps its greatest strength: its ability to connect people with one another.

The art installation is on display in the shop window 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until 26 September.
