Salon Schlitz. Retro Design for Future

At Salon Schlitz, the kitchen becomes an experimental print studio. This workshop introduces kitchen lithography - a surprisingly simple printing process that reinterprets the basic principle of traditional lithography using everyday materials. Instead of stone plates and specialist equipment, we work with aluminium foil, vegetable oil and cola. This makes a traditional technique accessible, immediate and easy to explore.

After a brief introduction, participants develop their own designs and transfer them onto a printing plate. Step by step, they learn how a drawing becomes a printable image: from designing and preparing the plate to applying the ink and printing on paper. There is plenty of room for experimentation, chance discoveries and individual ideas. The characteristic traces of the handmade process make each print unique. At the end of the workshop, participants can take home their own prints as well as the knowledge needed to continue experimenting with the technique independently.

The workshop is part of Salon Schlitz - Retro Design for Future within the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 programme. It combines historical knowledge, DIY culture and artistic practice while exploring how existing materials and techniques can be creatively reimagined for the future. No previous experience is required. Everyone who enjoys drawing, designing and hands-on experimentation is welcome.

Unfortunately, the venue is not wheelchair accessible (5 steps).

Getting there: From Rödelheim S-Bahn station, walk along Alexanderstraße, or take Bus 34 to Reha West.

Admission: Free of charge. Suitable for older children and teenagers as well.
