As a master student at the Städelschule Frankfurt, Lichtblau combines painting, screen printing, and drawing into a multi-layered work that has been characterized by the motif of the "Eye Girls" for twenty years. Her works lead into a pictorial world that simultaneously seems both foreign and familiar. At its center are girls in a limbo between childhood and adulthood - figures of transition who pause for a moment and return the gaze of the observer.

With their oversized eyes, they exude a haunting presence. They break through the traditional role distribution between the artwork and the audience: We don't just observe the work, but it also seems to look back at us, holding up a mirror. The mask-like faces, the subtle smile, and the concentrated calmness give the Eye Girls an ambivalent aura. They appear vulnerable and self-confident, melancholic and resilient. It is precisely in this tension that they open up spaces for projection, identification, and personal memory. Kerstin Lichtblau's works speak of identity, self-discovery, and the experiences of growing up, without clearly defining them. With subtle irony and poetic lightness, she reflects in her works on societal role models, female identity, and questions of self-empowerment. Her Eye Girls are far more than recurring motifs - they have become iconic figures whose haunting gaze immediately draws the observer into a silent but intense dialogue. These are images with high recognition value, which one once seen, never forgets.
