As a participant, you will create a personal "Kultur im Gepäck"(culture in your luggage)- suitcase. This suitcase stands as a symbol for your values, experiences and dreams for a peaceful and democratic coexistence in Germany. Through creative engagement with the topic, you will create an individual work of art that will become part of a joint statement for democracy in Germany in the spirit of freedom and diversity.

In preperation for the workshop, please read these following questions and sketch out your ideas.

  • What message do I want to convey with my suitcase?
  • What is important to me for a livable form of democracy?
  • How do I want to express my thoughts on the suitcase? (collage, painting, drawing, writing, print)
  • What kind of materials do I want to work with? (paper, fabric, watercolor, acrylic paint, fineliner)

After answering these questions you should have an idea of how you want to design your suitcase. Feel free to share wishes for materials with us. During the workshop, Paulina Honig and Luna Rekko will be available to talk to you and, if desired, provide advice and assistance.

Your designed suitcase, as an expression of your thoughts, wishes, and visions for a shared future in a diverse society, will become part of the social sculpture “WIR alle sind Deutschland” (We are all Germany), a glass suitcase measuring approx. 2m x 3m – as a joint statement for democracy in Germany.
