The project “New Neues Frankfurt” honors the ideals of the original Neues Frankfurt on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and translates them into the present day.
At its core is the historic mayhaus, which will be temporarily cleared out and transformed into a “model house for a better future.” The aim is to develop sustainable furnishing concepts for efficient floor plans that meet today’s housing needs and appeal to different income groups.
The furniture and built-in elements are designed to offer maximum functionality in minimal space and to be flexibly adaptable. The focus is not only on aesthetic design, but also on repairability and transparency within the value chain.
The results will be showcased as part of the “100 Years of Neues Frankfurt” anniversary and supplemented by interventions such as joint construction activities with local residents. In this way, the project becomes not only a real-world laboratory for experts but also a place of encounter and exchange for the city’s inhabitants. It sets impulses for sustainable and equitable urban development, promoting social equality and a conscious use of resources.
