The housing estate Bornheimer Hang was one of the larger projects of Neues Bauen in Frankfurt. Construction started in 1926 and until 1930, 1,540 apartments were completed.

Large apartment blocks enclose green areas with groups of single-family row houses in their centers. The main street Wittelsbacher Allee leads uphill to the church Heilig Kreuz overlooking the Riederbruch valley. Since the housing estate connects to an existing neighborhood, Bornheim, the planners Ernst May and Herbert Boehm had to adapt to some restrictions regarding street layout or roof design.

The ernst-may-gesellschaft was founded in 2003 by concerned citizens; as an association, its mission is to document and preserve Neues Frankfurt and to bring it into the current discourse on architecture and urban planning.

Jarrestadt in Hamburg was built in the late 1920s in the Neues Bauen style and is one of the most outstanding residential developments of its time. A defining feature is the dark red brick, a traditional North German building material.
