New Neues Frankfurt. Model House for a Better Future
Practical, modular, and community-oriented: In collaboration with Studio Jonathan Radetz, the ernst-may-gesellschaft e.V. translates key principles of the historic Neues Frankfurt movement into contemporary interiors and housing needs. Since compact floor plans, such as those of the mayhaus, require well-thought-out furniture and built-in solutions, new designs are being developed that address today’s needs while appealing to diverse income groups.
The project "New Neues Frankfurt. Model House for a Better Future" has been awarded the 2024 GFB Future Prize and is supported by the Cultural Office and the Department of Culture of the City of Frankfurt.

With mayfest 2025, the ernst-may-gesellschaft e.V. launches a design laboratory in the mayhaus. During the anniversary year of Neues Frankfurt, Studio Jonathan Radetz will, until March 2026, design innovative furniture for small floor plans within the mayhaus’ compact spaces. Living in minimal square footage is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago. Back then, designers recommended modular furniture by Franz Schuster for the apartments of Neues Frankfurt. Now, during this project phase, you can witness firsthand how new furniture pieces are created within the historic rooms—tailored to the needs of today’s residents.
