As part of the WDC 2026, Eske Hicken will be presenting her debut novel "Homeless" at the Weißfrauenkirche in Frankfurt.
Four people, one city, two worlds: Helen and Richard can afford vegan turkey and mindfulness courses, whilst Katie and John have to fight for survival on the streets. They all live in Portland, USA, a hub of alternative and hipster culture, where at the same time thousands of people are homeless. When a right-wing citizens’ initiative emerges, inciting hatred against the homeless, and tents are eventually even set alight, the four find themselves caught up in a maelstrom of violent events that pushes them to the limits of what they can endure.
Eske Hicken witnessed the tensions between these communities first-hand and has transformed them into a gripping novel that gets under your skin and tells of fates we might well encounter in our own part of the world in the future.
The event is free of charge and does not require a registration
