How can digital designs be made visible in real space, evaluated, and collaboratively developed further?
In this workshop, participants will develop their own sunshade using reused materials and the interactive, open-access prototype tool "Simplexity."
This digital tool integrates the digital form-finding of a saddle-shaped strap network, surface unfolding, and production data output into a seamless workflow.
This allows participants to visualize various shading elements that are virtually superimposed—using augmented reality glasses—onto the full-scale (1:1) "HEATdesign" prototype installed in front of the museum.
The workshop is aimed at students, designers, architects, and anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience with digital design processes and new forms of spatial communication.

At the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS), HEATdesign is an interdisciplinary research focus within the ReSULT (Research Lab for Sustainable Lightweight Building Technologies) research group. The initiative investigates climate-resilient and resource-efficient solutions for urban environments through the application of digital design and planning technologies.
The workshop, which explored the use of digital technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) for the analysis, visualization, and design of microclimatically optimized urban spaces, builds upon a seminar led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Timo Carl and M.Sc. Harun Faizi. Further information about the ReSULT research group.
