Osthang goes PaMo
Cooperative urban development. The future of PaMo as a creative quarter and the relocation of OHA e.V.
The city wants to develop the Pallaswiesen/Morneweg district, known as PaMo, into a creative quarter and needs partners to do so. To bring the concept to life, the city is dependent on civil society and commercial actors. A creative quarter requires workspaces for creative professions, but it also needs public and semi-public spaces, meeting places for cultural and/or creative activities, such as clubs, galleries, events, maker spaces, subcultural activity spaces, etc. In addition to their use, the spaces and atmospheres that are created are also important for a creative quarter, as they should invite people to make them their own. There are already various places and facilities in PaMo that offer such workspaces and semi-public spaces.
In summer 2025, it was decided that Osthang e. V., which had previously been located on the eponymous eastern slope of Mathildenhöhe, would relocate. The new location is the area next to the art depot in PaMo. The Architecture Department at hd_a has a long tradition of cooperation with Osthang, as the association emerged from the department and the Architecture Summer, in which Prof. Kerstin Schultz played a leading role. The symposium will explore what this move means for the association, how the city and the Mathildenhöhe Institute feel about it. Discussions will be held with the new neighbours about what the new location of Osthang means for them and what it can mean for a creative quarter, and how the department can support this.
