Many people are currently experiencing democracy under pressure – both from a global perspective and in their own local communities. Multiple crises, extremist tendencies, disinformation and ‘real’ scandals – trust in democratic processes is being undermined and challenged in a wide variety of ways. Even loneliness can lead to political alienation and hinder social discourse.

But aren’t there also innovative ideas, exciting experiments and digital solutions? We are looking for the components and levers that could rekindle people’s enthusiasm for ‘self-governance’. What design solutions can promote participation? Do we as a society need more sensory experiences, more of the aesthetics of democracy? What has already been tried in other countries and regions (can lies in politics really be banned)?

Young adults will discuss democratic innovations and creative approaches with democracy researcher Brigitte Geißel and design expert Felix Kosok. Anyone interested in or concerned by this topic is very welcome!
