Design Demokratie. Platz und Raum für Gemeinschaft

Democracy does not take place solely in parliaments at local, regional or national level. It must also be shaped on a daily basis in public spaces: in squares, in parks, around the family dinner table – wherever people come together and organise their shared lives. What is needed to ensure this succeeds? What must physical spaces for encounter look like to bring democracy to life?

The Young Academy discusses this with Peter Cachola Schmal from the German Architecture Museum and Lutz Dietzold from the German Design Council. Anyone interested in or concerned by this topic is warmly welcome!

Further Denkräume (forums for reflection) on the theme “Design Democracy” will take place on 29 May (Shaping Digital Spaces for Society) and 24 June 2026 (Upswing through Transformation?).
