As part of the “Design in Public Spaces” residency at the WDC Pavilion in Bad Homburg, Patrick Hubmann and Helene Freytag will be using the pavilion in the Kurhaus garden for two weeks as a space for collaborative design and construction.
The highlight will be a participatory workshop on 25 and 26 April 2026 as part of the Boom! Design Festival. With the Workshop on Wheels a mobile, public workshop will be set up directly in front of the Kurhaus. Passers-by are invited to join in spontaneously – no prior experience or tools of their own required. Modular wooden components will be prepared that can be assembled in various ways – into stools, chairs or benches, with or without backrests and armrests.
Participants’ own materials are expressly welcome: old boards, cushions, rugs or scraps of disused furniture can be integrated into the new piece. The finished piece of furniture remains the property of the participants, with the request that they also make it accessible to others, for example outside a shop, in the courtyard of a residential complex or at a public institution. A piece of furniture that travels on and creates public space where there was none before. Each piece is unique — and yet part of a family. Scattered across the town, together they tell the story of a weekend when Bad Homburg built itself a piece of furniture.
