What do we imagine museums of the future to be like? What happens when people don’t go to the museum, but the museum comes to them – with a mobile loom as a symbol of connection, collective making and participation?

From February to May 2026, the LOOMCYCLE will travel through different districts of Frankfurt. It will stop at places and events where people come together and new connections can emerge. In community centres, public squares and neighbourhood festivals, we invite people—together with local stakeholders and partner institutions—to take part: to weave, to engage in conversation and to experience design as a shared, democratic process.

This is not only about craft, but also about encounter, exchange and the experience of creating something together. With this project, we aim to open up new ways of accessing culture, inspire people to engage with artistic processes, and foster lasting relationships between the museum and the city’s districts and their communities.

LOOMCYCLE – named after the English word “loom” – is a project by the Berlin-based collective raumlaborberlin. It is part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition Wool. Silk. Resistance. as well as the programme of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 at the Museum Angewandte Kunst.
