For more than 30 years, the “Essen & Wärme” initiative has been providing warm lunches and packed meals to people in need every day from late October to early March. Several congregations in Offenbach take turns hosting for one or two weeks: in addition to Protestant and Catholic congregations and the City Mission, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community and the Frei-religiöse Gemeinde are also involved; over the Christmas holidays, the Offenbach public utilities offer support. Last winter, nearly 12,000 meals were distributed.

From December 15 to 21, 2025, the initiative will be hosted in the community rooms of the Friedenskirche. And on December 17, starting at 14:00, we’ll help with cleanup and then gather for candlelight and warm punch. If the weather is dry, we will meet on the new seating area in front of the church. If it’s too wet and uncomfortable, we can move into the community hall.

We look forward to meeting curious and warm-hearted people who would like to get to know this and other services for people in need and who enjoy exchanging ideas. And anyone who feels inspired at our “Wärme-Bar” to lend a hand—either for a specific project or on a longer-term basis—can learn about suitable engagement opportunities in Offenbach.

Barrier-free access is available. The event is free of charge. We will chat in German and perhaps other languages as well.

The Offenbach Volunteer Centre provides advice and assistance on all matters relating to volunteering and community involvement, encouraging Offenbach residents of all ages to get involved and participate.
