SCHAUKASTEN:STADT – HOCHHEIM:WEINFESTSELIG

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Hochheim Wine Festival, the HOCHHEIM:WEINFESTSELIG project is creating a democratically designed memorial space in the heart of the city. An analogue exhibition is being set up in the vacant former citizens' office, where citizens can contribute their memories, objects and perspectives on wine festival culture.

The starting point is the digital platform SCHAUKASTEN:STADT, which has been making local history visible as a participatory online archive since 2024 with the support of the Museumsverbands Hessen e. V.  HOCHHEIM:WEINFESTSELIG brings this content into the public space and expands it with collaboratively developed design elements on site.

The exhibition highlights the development of the ‘Hochheim-Frankfurt Wine Festival’ to the present day, conveys personal stories and makes collective knowledge tangible. In 2025, contributions will be collected digitally via the platform, supplemented by editorial and design preparation for analogue implementation. The exhibition design follows a democratic design approach: flexible, low-threshold, atmospheric. The opening is planned for 17 May 2026 on International Museum Day. It will be accompanied by storytelling cafés, workshops and hands-on activities on site. In this way, HOCHHEIM:WEINFESTSELIG will become a place for communal remembering, creating and learning – in the spirit of a vibrant, creatively conceived democracy.
