Frankfurter KunstSäule – Kuratoren Florian Koch und Daniel Hartlaub
The Frankfurter KunstSäule, located in the heart of the Brückenviertel, has been showcasing works that engage with design and democracy since 2017.
For example, in 2019, HfG graduate Friedhard Kiekeben from Chicago presented a design collage on the KunstSäule that became iconic and even sparked several spontaneous dance parties in front of it. Artists, collectors, art enthusiasts, commuters, pedestrians, and visitors to the Brückenstraße playground all come together here, creating encounters across all ages and backgrounds.
In 2026, the KunstSäule will again transform into an open-air gallery and a lively space for exchange with three exhibitions:
- Frankfurt artist Julia Roppel will focus on the Frankfurt chair in her work for the KunstSäule from 17 April 2026. The design icon stands for a sustainable improvement in everyday life with high quality. A curated sit-in, where everyone brings a chair or seat and can say a few words about it, is the special event planned for spring.
- In a collaborative work, Charlotte and Andrea Ludwig will present their drawn heads from 19 June onwards, illustrating the guiding principle of democracy and participation.
- In a third work, starting on 4 September, Italian artist Pietro Finelli questions the relevance of the metropolitan flâneur Walter Benjamin today.
Each exhibition will be accompanied not only by an opening but also by a talk—either a meeting with the curator and artist or a discussion with journalists. The talks are designed to be open and invite all guests to engage in dialogue on equal footing.
