Calling Walter Benjamin – Pietro Finelli

The third planned position comes from Milanese artist Pietro Finelli, who uses his cinematic collages to explore urban spaces, relating private and public interiors to one another.

In doing so, he draws on the urban wanderer Walter Benjamin, who can be considered the founder of ‘picture thinking’, i.e. thinking in images (rather than concepts). In his work, Finelli questions the relevance of Walter Benjamin today. It is a collage that combines his own motifs, film stills and found footage material.
