The participating universities include Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS), the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC Chile) and HfG Offenbach, which are conducting research in public spaces across various disciplines. The project is based on the Smartbank modules of the Lange Bank, which have been enhanced with sensor technology.

These energy-self-sufficient research stations record microclimatic and physical data such as temperature, humidity, noise levels and vibrations. This makes heat stress and climatic stresses measurable, allowing them to be technically analysed, interpreted and implemented in design. The sensor-digital interface is made possible by the Digital Prototyping department at HfG Offenbach.

In the Urban Lab, the participating universities work on an interdisciplinary basis:

  • UC Chile conducts field research and participatory climate actions.
  • Frankfurt UAS develops heatmaps and educational formats.
  • HfG Offenbach translates the collected measurement data into visual, acoustic and interactive installations that bring climatic processes and social dynamics in urban spaces to life.

The Smartbenches will be unveiled together for the first time at the opening. Everyone involved from the universities and the DAM, as well as anyone else who is interested, will have the chance to meet one another on the day and socialise over drinks whilst enjoying a short concert by the artist Sallar (HfG OF).
