Urban heat is becoming an increasing threat in times of climate change and causes several thousand deaths across Europe every year. Buildings and elements of urban nature create major differences in how heat is experienced throughout the city.

This walk combines participatory data collection on the microclimate and the factors that strongly influence it with broader insights into green infrastructure of all scales. Together, we explore how urban heat hotspots could be redesigned in the future to become more climate-resilient and livable. On a hot summer day, participants will experience the city’s climate and the microclimatic importance of urban vegetation in an interactive and hands-on way. During a walk through a section of the Wallanlagen — from Willy-Brandt-Platz to Eschenheimer Tor — we identify heat hotspots and discuss sustainable adaptation strategies together.

Meeting point: “Euro Sculpture” by Ottmar Hörl, Willy-Brandt-Platz
Duration: approx. 1.5–2 hours

How hot does our city really get — and what does that mean for how we live in it? On a participatory walk through the Wallanlagen in Frankfurt, we explore the city’s microclimate in a hands-on way. We look at vegetation, sense temperature differences, identify urban heat hotspots, and reflect together on smart strategies for a more climate-resilient and future-ready city.
