Safer Spaces – introductory talk on awareness at events
The one-hour session provides a basic introduction to awareness and explores how events can be designed to be sensitive to discrimination and mindful of diversity. At the heart of the session is the question: how can we create spaces in which marginalised groups in particular – regardless of gender, background, disability, sexual orientation or other lines of difference – feel safe and respected?
Alongside an introduction to key concepts such as consent and boundary awareness, the session outlines practical approaches for teams, organisers and participants. It encourages self-reflection and understands awareness as a continuous practice of responsibility. The aim is to offer an initial entry point that inspires participants to continue engaging with the topic independently.
