Rapid demographic change, technological advancement, and automation are fundamentally reshaping the demands placed on urban spaces. How can cities be reimagined to meet not only human needs but also the requirements of the planet?

Traditional growth narratives are no longer sufficient—what we need are alternative metrics and narratives that foster symbiotic relationships between humans and more-than-human actors. This question becomes even more urgent in scenarios where humanity may no longer be part of the planetary ecosystem. How do we design cities that remain livable even in such contexts?

Re-Negotiating Space (RNS) addresses this question through a series of dialogues, interactions, and interventions exploring democratic instruments for renegotiating urban spaces between human and planetary needs. The project develops new approaches, methods, and tools to transform conventional urban governance models into a form of urban-ecological democracy through active engagement of planetary perspectives as well as all population groups.

The main language of the dialogue event is English. The supporting programme is multilingual, including German. In good weather, the event will take place outdoors. We recommend travelling by public transport. A limited number of parking spaces are available outside the park.

What does it means to consider planet and humanity as equals in shaping our urban environments? New approaches, tools, and ideas needed to create an urban-ecological democracy will be explored.
