RNS #4 From Tech to Transformation — Tools for Re-Negotiation
Kultur einer Digitalstadt e.V., hortopia.org
As cities face existential challenges—from climate change and social inequality to the overbearing influence of technology—the question becomes ever more urgent: What concrete instruments and processes enable all stakeholders to actively reshape the complex interdependencies of socio-eco-urban systems? How can we ensure that not only experts or algorithms, but also marginalized groups, non-human actors, and local communities have a voice? And what acts of decomputation—a deliberate move away from purely technocratic solutions—are required to drive genuine transformation?
Instead of further abstracting urban life through digital means, we need approaches that center embodied experiences, local knowledge, and planetary boundaries.
Re-Negotiating Space (RNS) addresses these questions through a series of dialogues, interactions, and interventions that explore democratic instruments for renegotiating urban spaces between human and planetary needs. The project develops new approaches, methods, and tools to transform conventional urban governance models into a form of urban-ecological democracy through the active engagement of planetary perspectives as well as all population groups.
The main language of the dialogue event is English. The supporting programme is multilingual, including German. In good weather, the event will take place outdoors. We recommend travelling by public transport. A limited number of parking spaces are available outside the park.
