Shared Matter

At Shared Matter in the G10 project space, local collectives work together with the G10 curatorial team to design exhibitions in an open, collaborative process.

The project focuses on participation, shared responsibility and co-creative curating – as a democratic, collaborative practice in the cultural sphere. Design, art and social issues are at the heart of the two planned exhibitions.

The two presentations will primarily examine how design can be used to create social spaces that are artistically and aesthetically designed. In contrast to large institutions and museums, G10 reaches the general public directly on the street and breaks down the barriers that prevent audiences from engaging with art.

Shared Matter #1: Sites of Struggle
17 July – 26 July 2026

How can we tell stories about realities that are not our own? This question is explored by students of the Department of Design at Mathildenhöhe in the seminar Sites of Struggle led by Prof. Sara Maierhofer. The exhibition presents photographic works that move within the tension between proximity and distance, empathy and projection, intimacy and voyeurism.

The photographs are understood as the result of encounters and as part of a dialogical practice between people, places, and the camera.

Shared Matter #2: G10 & blumen e.V.
7 August – 5 September 2026

With Shared Matter #2, G10 Projektraum and blumen e.V. develop a co-curated exhibition and performance project dedicated to the idea of radical interconnectedness and the collective use of space. Starting from the question of how community is created, shared, and experienced, three performative interventions will take place between 7 August and 5 September 2026, moving between both venues.

The invited artists — Sismalena (Eleni Sismanidou), Juliane Schmitt, and Maex Hoellenblau — create performances that connect bodies, spaces, and rhythm, while challenging structures and established ways of seeing that are deeply embedded in social memory.

The performance format enables temporary encounters for the audience and opens up new forms of togetherness. Shared Matter #2 understands connectedness not as something given, but as something that must be continually negotiated and collectively shaped.
