Organ Order

The performance "Organ Order" by the artist Juliane Schmitt explores the relationship between sound, the body, machines and control.

At the heart of the performance is the portative, a small, portable organ. Despite its small size, the pipe organ produces deep, rich tones by means of an electric arm that moves the instrument’s bellows and allows air to flow through the pipes. This mechanically generated sound sets a tempo to which the artist’s voice, as well as samples and electronic sounds, gradually converge. A multi-layered composition unfolds around this resonant breath. Pauses are deliberately held, filled and then released again. The voice follows the rhythm, resists it and drifts away again. This creates a fragile structure of breathing pauses, silence, friction and dissolution, in which the instrument, the machine, the body and frequencies are constantly shifting in relation to one another.

With Shared Matter #2, G10 Projektraum and blumen e.V. are developing a co-curated exhibition and performance project dedicated to the idea of radical connectedness and the communal use of spaces. Starting from the question of how community can be created, shared and experienced, three performative interventions will take place between 7 August and 5 September 2026, moving between the two venues.

The invited artists Sismalena (Eleni Sismanidou), Juliane Schmitt and Maex Hoellenblau forge connections in their performances between bodies, spaces and rhythm – thereby breaking with structures and conventional ways of seeing that are deeply rooted in the collective memory.

The performance format enables temporary encounters for the audience and opens up new forms of interaction. The Shared Matter #2 project views connectedness not as a given, but as something that is constantly renegotiated and jointly shaped.
