The Kiosk of Solidarity intervenes in various locations in Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel, creating a platform for dialogue, encounters and knowledge exchange.

In collaboration with local residents, neighborhood initiatives and groups, street social workers, addiction support services and people affected by substance use, the project gathers perspectives on urban space and drug consumption. Potential partnerships with academic research projects encourage exchange and knowledge production.

A central focus is acceptance-based addiction support. This approach, which has shaped the neighborhood and is a key topic of debate in Frankfurt and internationally, is part of the so-called Frankfurter Weg. Long celebrated as a success, it provides life-saving assistance and healthcare for people affected by addiction—many of whom also face homelessness, social exclusion and have experienced migration.

Marginalized groups, such as drug users, are rarely included in participatory processes and their expertise on social policy and spatial realities is often overlooked. The Kiosk aims to connect different forms of knowledge and translate them into experiences that build upon and advance existing initiatives.

Key questions include:

  • Where are points of conflict?
  • How can design support information exchange, visibility, and dialogue?
  • What strategies does addiction support in Frankfurt use?
  • What problems and conflicts are emerging?
