Gemeinsam wachsen uns Flügel!
In Frankfurt’s Dornbusch district, there is a lack of a central place where people can meet, exchange ideas, and be active together.
The area is characterized by through-traffic, has so far experienced little in the way of participatory projects and offers few spaces for neighborhood encounters. This is exactly where the initiative’s idea comes in: Gemeinsam wachsen uns Flügel. Project Dornbusch aims to create an open, welcoming meeting place for everyone—designed and used collectively.
The goal is to transform the square in front of Dornbusch Church into a lively space: with a large, community-designed wing-shaped sun sail, a “forest sofa” as a meeting spot and plenty of room for conversations, games, creative activities and small celebrations.
The project brings together people who previously had little contact with one another and sparks enthusiasm for co-creation. The neighborhood is actively involved—from idea generation to workshops and implementation. A public campaign invites participation, while a moderated citizen engagement process creates space for dialogue. The square is developed, designed, and continuously activated by residents, artists, craftspeople and committed local actors. This creates a place that not only makes visible but also tangible what is possible when a neighborhood comes together: an example of democratic participation, creative city-making and lived community.
