Wir gestalten den Platz – Bauwochenende

From June 19–21, 2026, Dornbuschplatz will host the “Growing Wings Together” build weekend.

Following the April workshop, ideas developed with the community will be brought to life: city furniture will be built, raised beds planted, and a shading structure installed to make the square usable on sunny days. The exact form – whether a sunshade, tarp, wooden frame, or another creative solution – will be decided together during the workshop.

The build weekend invites all neighbors to participate hands-on, contribute their ideas, and actively shape the space. Creating something together not only strengthens community ties but also fosters awareness for care, cleanliness, and sustainable use of public space.

The goal is to establish a high-quality space for sitting, lingering, talking, and accommodating people of all ages. The weekend also serves as a kick-off for further activities and long-term engagement. We hope the square will be embraced by the community, that ideas will be tested and developed, and that many new participants will be motivated to contribute and take responsibility over the long term.

We are a citizens’ initiative in the Dornbusch district of Frankfurt, firmly believing in and working toward the creation of a place for community cohesion in our neighborhood. Currently, we have a core group of around 10 active members and about 20 additional participants who join us for individual activities. We envision a space for gathering, conversation, play, and exchange, for both young and old. We want a place that is open and welcoming to all people in the neighborhood.
