Workshop Back to Nature: Neue Symbole gestalten

Defining nature is a difficult, constantly shifting undertaking. What if our relationship to nature were the starting point for designing futures together? Visions of Nature teaches practical skills for working with futures and takes different human-nature relationships as its design starting point. Through role play, debate, and collective design, participants translate different human-nature relationships into images of possible futures.

Everyone is welcome — whether you're curious about futures methods, feel at a loss when facing the future and want to explore new perspectives, or are simply curious — no prior experience required.

Facilitation: Benjamin Lehn and Sabine Reitmaier of otherwise studio, both with backgrounds in futures studies (Freie Universität Berlin) and design (TU Eindhoven and HfG Offenbach, respectively).

SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The three-day summer school "Design for, with, towards Nature" (Sept 11–13, Gestalt Error 409 x Senckenberg) is about coming together in exchange, gaining a new perspective on nature, and exploring how we can value and preserve it. Running in parallel is the second workshop strand: "New Symbols for Reconnecting Humans and Nature."

Friday: Gathering, guided tour at the Senckenberg Museum on "Changing Concepts of Nature Through Time," exploration of urban biotopes, dinner together

Saturday: Workshops morning and afternoon, lunch with a music performance, dinner together, public evening talk on the rights of nature followed by discussion, drinks & snacks

Sunday: Workshops, setting up an internal exhibition, closing get-together

Gestalt Error 409 is a design blog founded in 2022, dedicated to design practice and theory, and organizing events at the intersection of design criticism, theory, and cultural analysis. For the summer school "Design for, with, towards Nature," Gestalt Error 409 is partnering with the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung.
