Paths to Design

On three evenings in November and December 2026, we want to talk to people from the world of design about their personal paths to design in the reading room of basis e. V. How did they get into design, what influenced them along the way, and what strikes them today when they think about the discipline and theory of design?

Late November, early December 2026, reading room, basis e.V., Gutleutstraße 8-12, 60329 Frankfurt am Main

Visions of Nature: ein Design Futuring Workshop

Gestalt Error 409

How might we design futures if our relationship with nature were the starting point? This is the question explored in one of two workshops as part of the summer school ‘Design for, with and about nature’ (Gestalt Error 409 x Senckenberg).

Workshop Back to Nature: Neue Symbole gestalten

Gestalt Error 409

We usually approach nature either through reason or as an escape from everyday life — forgetting that we ourselves are nature. One of two workshops within the summer school "Design for, with, towards Nature" starts right there: reconnecting inner and outer nature in a personal symbol.

409 Summerschool

Gestalt Error 409 x Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung

Eco is out — or so it seems, given the current political climate worldwide. In a three-day summer school with the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung, we explore why nature matters to us — both practically and theoretically, across two workshop strands to choose from.

Designdebatte #2: Idealismus im Designstudium

Gestalt Error 409

Should designers be better prepared for the professional world? Design programs often focus on the underestimated power of design to create a better world. But when they enter the job market, many designers realize that the day-to-day reality is quite different.

Designdebatte #1: Design Thinking ist tot – Leider? Endlich?

Gestalt Error 409, HfG Offenbach

Design thinking was the most popular design method for a long time. It was usually hated rather than loved by designers. Today, the method seems to be disappearing more and more from agencies' portfolios.
