Gestalt Error 409 – Design & Diskurs

409 Summerschool

Eco is out – or so it seems, given the current political climate worldwide. Why nature matters to us, and how we might approach it aesthetically, both practically and theoretically, is what we're exploring in a three-day summer school together with the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung.

Alongside talks and guided tours of the city and museum, there will be two parallel workshop strands, each working from a different perspective on what nature is, or could be.

THE WORKSHOPS

Visions of Nature: A Design Futuring Workshop takes our relationship to nature as its starting point, using role play, debate, and collective design to shape futures together.

New Symbols for Reconnecting Humans and Nature approaches the topic physically and sensorially: through meditation, breathwork, and intuitive design, participants develop their own symbol for the connection between inner and outer nature.

Both workshops are open to everyone, regardless of prior experience.

PROGRAM

Friday begins with an informal gathering, followed by a guided tour at the Senckenberg Museum and an exploration of Frankfurt's urban biotopes, before the evening winds down over dinner together. Saturday belongs to the workshops, held morning and afternoon; in between there's lunch with a music performance, dinner together in the evening, then a public talk on the rights of nature followed by discussion, plus drinks & snacks. Sunday brings the final workshop sessions, after which we build an internal exhibition together before the summer school comes to a close.

Cost: €30 for food and drinks.

Gestalt Error 409 is a design blog founded in 2022, dedicated to design practice and theory, and organizing events at the intersection of design criticism, theory, and cultural analysis.
