Kitchen on the Run

...

Together with Über den Tellerrand Frankfurt e. V., we invite you to a unique cooking event at the “Kitchen on the Run.” Here, we’ll cook and eat together while creating a space for dialogue, connection, and new perspectives. The event will also feature information about WeKitchen and interactive hands-on activities.

WeKitchen thrives on participation: Feedback, criticism, and new ideas lead to solutions tailored to the diverse needs of its future users. This is exactly where the event comes in. People with and without migration or refugee experience, as well as those with and without disabilities, come together, get to know one another, and exchange ideas. This helps break down barriers and fosters respectful interaction.

The meal will likely consist of fattoush (Syrian salad) as an appetizer, bulgur with chickpeas or chicken drumsticks as the main course, and a strawberry-and-cream sundae for dessert.

Cooking serves as a unifying element that facilitates shared experiences and promotes participation. At the same time, the event raises awareness of inclusive kitchen design and demonstrates how spaces can be designed to actively incorporate diversity.

The ideas and suggestions gathered during the event can be incorporated into the final refinement of the WeKitchen design. This will then be realized as part of Vision 31 at the Kulturcampus in Bockenheim.

  • To get there, you can take tram lines 11 or 21 to the Rebstöcker Straße stop. From there, it is less than 200 meters to the "Kitchen on the Run" container.
  • The "Kitchen on the Run" container is situated on a paved surface.
  • The container itself is not barrier-free (to enter it, you must step up one step).
  • However, there will also be food preparation and participatory activities taking place in the outdoor area in front of the container. The communal meal will also take place outside the container. Since the event takes place predominantly outdoors, it is important to dress appropriately for the weather.
  • A barrier-free restroom is available on-site.
  • If meat is served, it is halal. A vegetarian dish is also always available.
  • Please also note that there is a fair amount of background noise at the venue, as Gustavsburgstraße is located right next to the busy Mainzer Landstraße. You are welcome to bring your own kitchen aids or utensils to help make the event—and the shared cooking and dining experience—as comfortable as possible.
  • Participation in the event, as well as the food and tap water, are free of charge (on a donation basis).

Akpene Therése Gbogbo, an occupational therapist (B.Sc.) and inclusive design specialist (M.Sc.) with a focus on inclusive kitchen design, provides the scientific foundation for the WeKitchen.

Jonathan Radetz, a product designer, brings the WeKitchen design to life through his design studio, “Studio Jonathan Radetz”.

Über den Tellerrand Frankfurt e. V., as an organizer and host of cooking events and other activities, brings people together in the WeKitchen.
