Staatliche Zeichenakademie Hanau

...

With KulturErben, the State Drawing Academy Hanau opens up a creative space for a contemporary engagement with cultural heritage in this context. The occasion is the recognition of gold- and silversmithing as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2025. At the academy, culture is not only preserved but also reimagined, designed, and shared.

Trainees, students, teachers, and external participants develop shared perspectives on values, identity, and the future through a wide range of projects. The format is open, inclusive, and intergenerational—featuring workshops, studios, interventions, and dialogues.

KulturErben connects over 250 years of the academy’s history with current questions of design and social responsibility – and demonstrates that cultural heritage thrives through exchange, creativity, and collective rethinking.

At Open – KulturErben, visitors are invited to become part of this cultural heritage, to immerse themselves in history, and to help shape the future.

The day comes to a relaxed close with cool drinks, good music, and pleasant conversations.

The State Academy of Design in Hanau is a place where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary ideas. Since 1772, it has trained creative talents in gold and silversmithing, engraving, metal forming, and gemstone setting. Recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, it is now more modern, diverse, and practice-oriented than ever. It is supported by the Kathinka-Platzhoff Foundation, Gebr. Ott, Burger Edelmetalle, Berckwerk, Mannheimer Versicherung, Sabko and the friends’ association.
