What might this square look like in the future? And what can we do about it today?
In our Design Futuring workshop, we’ll explore the square together as a space full of possibilities. Instead of looking for ready-made solutions, we’ll experiment with ideas, ask questions, and envision bold futures. Through playful, creative, and performative methods, possible futures become visible, open to discussion, and tangible.
We work with movement, images, stories, small models, and spatial experiments. Together, we consider: What changes do we hope for? What if things had turned out completely differently? What consequences would new ideas have for the square—today, tomorrow, and in a few years? This process gives rise to surprising perspectives and new conversations.
A key component is “World Hinting”: Together, we develop spatial ideas and small interventions that hint at possible futures for the square. Using models, sketches, and scenarios, we create initial designs that serve as a starting point for later experiments in the urban space.
We also take a closer look at our own visions of the future. Playful exercises reveal the hopes, doubts, and design possibilities we associate with the future—and how differently we perceive them.
No prior knowledge is required. Whether you’ve lived in the neighborhood for a long time, are new here, enjoy designing, discussing, or are simply curious—every perspective is welcome. Together, we develop ideas that can take shape step by step.

Das Fliegende S e.V. develops projects in public spaces and participatory processes with a focus on shared spaces, community, and social, ecological sustainability. At the intersection of art, design, urban research, and social practice, we develop formats such as situational and open-ended interactions as well as experimental construction. Using self developed methods of performative, speculative design, we reveal the potential of spaces and engage people in low-threshold creative processes.
