What might the square look like tomorrow—and what does it take to make it a vibrant place for everyone?
In the construction labs, ideas developed collaboratively during the speculative workshop and the open, performative format are translated into concrete, walk-through prototypes. In the spirit of world hinting, minimal yet tangible interventions are created that spatially foreshadow possible futures for the square and make them accessible to other residents. These spatial experiments allow new uses and possibilities to be experienced firsthand.
The project deliberately works with existing resources: materials are collected, exchanged, or reused from the neighborhood, demonstrating how creativity and collective action can give rise to something new. Everyone contributes their perspectives, experiences, and ideas, shaping the process together.
Whether you’ve lived in the neighborhood for a long time, are new here, enjoy hands-on work, think creatively, or are simply curious—every contribution enriches the process. The construction labs invite you to experiment, engage in conversation, and discover together what the future of the square might look like.
No admission fee, no registration required; event language is German (English or Spanish available if needed).
Das Fliegende S e. V. develops projects in public spaces and participatory processes with a focus on shared spaces, community, and social, ecological sustainability. At the intersection of art, design, urban research, and social practice, we develop formats such as situational and open-ended interactions as well as experimental construction. Using self developed methods of performative, speculative design, we reveal the potential of spaces and engage people in low-threshold creative processes.
