"Are you sick of always losing, too?" This is how Martin Oetting begins – paraphrased – one of his YouTube videos. The marketing professional worked for capitalist corporations for a long time. However, Donald Trump's inauguration gave him such pause that he completely changed his agenda.
He advocates for a shift in language and symbolism within climate movements, among those advocating for social justice, and others fighting for a better world. The old language and forms of protest are worn out and no longer work; instead of mobilizing the undecided to act, they merely serve as targets for the opponents of change. This means: movements need a new language, new symbolism, and new forms of protest.
This also includes the question of how they want to be perceived: as the perpetually "good" but unsuccessful people, or as those who want the power to bring about change. The KlimaKneipe asks: Which strategies are helpful here? How can forces be united? So that we finally stop losing.
