KlimaKneipe OFFROAD – Durstig nach Veränderung
Das laute Schweigen – mit Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus
Verein zur Förderung von Klimagerechtigkeit e.V. in Kooperation mit dem KoalaKollektiv
The event "The Loud Silence – KlimaKneipe with Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus" addresses the paralysis and speechlessness of the German climate justice movement in the face of the Gaza war. Since October 7, 2023, public debate in Germany has been strongly polarized and characterized by repression, which has led to a "climate of fear" and silence within many climate groups.
In contrast to international discourse, where climate groups often draw connections between climate justice, post-colonialism, and the situation in Gaza, the German scene struggles to link these topics together.
To examine this paralysis, Berlin-based Israeli writer Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus has been invited. As a critical left-wing voice and descendant of Holocaust survivors, he will offer insights into why the German debate unfolds so differently from the international one due to historical responsibility and reason of state.
Additionally, the discussion will address whether the link between Gaza and the climate is imperative or constructed, and how to succeed in a discourse based on universal human rights. The aim of the evening is not to prescribe fixed positions, but to understand the areas of tension and to re-engage in dialogue despite differences of opinion.
Free of charge.
