Local Dancing

local dancing invites people to dance local dances together—for the joy of it, accompanied by live keyboard music.

These include the 5-5-5-5-5 Dance, the Summertime Sadness Dance, the Fairydance, and the Procession Dance. Drawing on queer traditions and newly invented instant traditions, local dancing imagines popular group dances that seem to have travelled through time and now appear in non-binary, non-partnered forms. Free from any national identity, the dances pretend to be local—wherever they are danced. They create an occasion to come together and be carried by the repetition and rhythm of a circular choreography.
