A city district and its buildings—such as a bridge—form a structure; if structures like this are damaged or removed, it causes significant disruption to social, economic, and other vital areas. This is precisely what happened in the Frankfurt-Griesheim district, where a bridge was demolished a few years ago after serious structural defects were discovered. Local residents miss the bridge, as it had connected two parts of the district and provided a link to the city center, the motorway, and other roads.
At the 2026 Mainuferfest, the artist collective Schwarm21 and Nikolaus A. Nessler will work with visitors to construct an art bridge that showcases the social, technical, and aesthetic creativity of both residents and guests. The motto: "WE ARE THE BRIDGE."
Materials, tools, and refreshments will be provided free of charge.
The venue is wheelchair accessible, offers a limited number of parking spaces, and is a 6-minute walk from the “Chemisches Werk” stop on bus line 54. No registration required. Admission and participation are free. People with disabilities are warmly welcome. Children under 14 may participate only if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Knowledge of German is not required. German, English, French, and Portuguese will be spoken.
Nikolaus A. Nessler is an artist and the initiator of an artist collective featuring a rotating lineup of contributors from various fields. We are conducting the "Structure & Poetry 2.0" workshop at the invitation of the Vereinring Griesheim. The Mainuferfest is supported by the City of Frankfurt and BEOS (patronage).
