Typography for Democracy features several events that explore the cultural significance of typography as a bridge between cultures.

Writing is more than a medium – it builds identity. In the context of intercultural communication, its significance grows greatly. Different writing systems can act as barriers: marginalised scripts often carry stigma or reinforce stereotypes. Although Frankfurt RheinMain is a highly multicultural region, non-Latin scripts rarely appear in public spaces.

Yet engaging with diverse alphabets can also bring people together. All three Abrahamic faiths are "book religions" that place special value on writing: Latin, Hebrew, and Arabic, respectively. This project uses workshops centred on the aesthetic exploration of scripts to open up new spaces for dialogue across cultures.
