Main-Light
As part of WDC 2026, Tobias Trübenbacher and Andreas Lang are developing Main-Light, an autonomous, climate-neutral lighting solution for public spaces. Using innovative solar films, simple installation without power cables, and an insect-friendly light spectrum, they are creating a sustainable alternative that conserves resources and brings light to previously dark places.
Conventional street lighting disrupts ecosystems through light pollution, affects the natural day-night rhythm of both humans and animals, and causes high CO₂ emissions, particularly due to resource-intensive installation and complex wiring. At the same time, lighting in public spaces is an important factor for the safety of citizens, often neglected, especially in more remote regions. Furthermore, the potential of renewable energy sources in public spaces frequently remains invisible – photovoltaic technology is rarely actively noticed, which limits the development of public awareness of its possibilities.
The pilot project will be implemented in 2026 along the cycle path between Offenbach and Frankfurt, strengthening the cycling infrastructure in the area. Further cooperations are planned.
